Recommendations in Skull Surgery

PREOPERATIVE

01

Stop anticoagulants if allowed by your cardiologist or internist. You can also switch to another type of anticoagulation if you have cardiovascular conditions.

02

Have adequate blood pressure or blood glucose control if you are diabetic, 10 days prior to your scheduled surgery.

03

Have a preoperative evaluation carried out by your internist or cardiologist, 10 days prior to your surgery.

04

Lose weight and find yourself at an appropriate weight according to your height.

05

Stop smoking 2 to 3 months before the procedure and 3 months after your cranial surgery.

06

Do not present data on urinary tract infection or recent flu symptoms.

07

Consider that you must rest 6 weeks after your surgery to give notice at work.

08

Consider that at home you should be in a room where you do not have to climb many stairs or exert yourself for 6 weeks.

09

Consider that for 2 weeks you must have a family member or nurse who can assist you if necessary.

10

Go to the hospital with all your imaging studies (MRI, etc.) and preoperative studies if you have them.

POSTOPERATIVE

01

est at home for 4 to 6 weeks.

Do not go up or down stairs or make efforts for 6 weeks.

Cure with microdacyn should be performed, and patch change after bathing for 7 days. If you constantly stain you should contact the office.

04

In case of fever, redness of the wound or discharge from the wound, you should go to the emergency room and contact the doctor in charge.

05

You must not drive for a month.

06

Go to the consultation for revision or removal of stitches or staples according to the situation 11 or 12 days after surgery.

07

If you have weakness of a limb, headache, confusion,  difficulty understanding things or expressing yourself; you should contact your doctor.

08

You must take antibiotics, analgesics and gastric protectors as established by the responsible doctor. If in doubt, contact the doctor.

09

If you have a fall, contact your doctor.

10

You should not smoke for a minimum of 2 or 3 months after surgery. Smoking leads to poor healing.

11

Postoperative control studies will be indicated by the doctor if necessary.

12

Your doctor will tell you whether or not you need physiotherapy one month after your surgery.
