Dr. Xicoténcatl Pérez Sánchez, MD, is originally from the city of Colima (Mexico), where he studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colima.
Subsequently, he completed his internship at the Salvador Zubirán National Institute of Nutrition, in Mexico City. He also was part of an exchange program between the University of Colima and the National Institute of Nutrition. He did social work at the research area of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery Manuel Velasco Suárez, where he also did his thesis: "Epilepsy surgery in patients with gliomas”.
He was awarded a scholarship by the Manuel Velasco Siles Foundation, with the support of Don Manuel Velasco Suárez, to travel to the City of Jerusalem Israel and be part of the Neurosurgery Residency program (1999), under the tutorship of Professor Félix Umansky (Internationally recognized Neurosurgeon). Thus began his Neurosurgery Specialty at Hadassah Ein Kerem University Hospital, in the city of Jerusalem, Israel.
As part of his degree, he completed one year of General Surgery and later 5 years in Neurosurgery, completing different rotations in head trauma, brain tumors, spine, spinal cord trauma, pediatric neurosurgery, Parkinson's surgery and epilepsy, among others.
Hadassah Ein Kerem University Hospital is a hospital recognized in the region as one of the hospitals that has the most advanced technology, intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging, neuronavigation and functional surgery in the world. It is one of the reference points of care for patients injured by car accidents, as well as those injured by the Civil War or Intifada.
At the end of the Specialty in Neurosurgery, he did a subspecialty or postgraduate in Skull Base Surgery for one year, under the tutorship of Professor Félix Umansky, attending patients with complex tumors of the posterior fossa such as schwannomas, meningiomas and others.
At the end of the postgraduate course, he completed a postgraduate course in Spine Surgery under the tutorship of Professor Segal with rotation in the Department of Orthopedics and Spine Surgery, ending in 2006.
He returned to his hometown and later settled in Mexico City.
